Lancaster notch first win with thanks to four-goal Crawford

NEW YORK MAGIC 1, LANCASTER INFERNO 4

BROOKLYN, NY - The Lancaster Inferno (1-1 East) earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Poly Prep Country Day School, as James Madison University forward Haley Crawford scored four goals to lead the visitors over the New York Magic (0-1-1 East). After conceding an early goal in the first half, the Inferno tied the game in the 22nd minute and never looked back.

In the 12th minute, New York got on the score board first when forward Lissette Rodriguez sent forward Eboni Birch in on goal with a through ball from 20 yards out, beating Lancaster goalkeeper Kelly O’Brien for the 1-0 early lead. Crawford tied the match on an assist from St. Francis University midfielder Siobhan Bross ten minutes later and in the 40th minute had her second goal assisted by defender Trisha Clark.

Crawford completed her first half hat-trick in the 44th minute on an assist from midfielder Emilie Kupsov. The Magic played an offsides trap in this match that caused problems for the Inferno offense and disrupted their chemistry, causing 12 offsides calls. But the visitors would still score in the 51st minute, as Crawford scored her fourth and final goal of the match. Lancaster out-shot New York by a 6-5 margin and Magic keeper Sierra Bonham made two saves.
