METUCHEN, NJ - The 2019 United Women's Soccer (UWS) season kicked off last weekend with games in the East and Midwest Conferences. In the Midwest, both host teams Lansing United & Detroit Sun FC, had victories over their opponents. Meanwhile, in the East, LI Rough Riders & Worcester Smiles faced a different outcome in their home openers. Connecticut Fusion's Kylee McIntosh has been named UWS Defensive Player of the Week for her outstanding play to shut down Long Island's dangerous attack, which resulted in a 2-1 victory. Lansing United's Aubrey Schierbeek garners UWS Offensive Player of the Week for coming up big with two goals in their rematch of the 2018 Midwest Conference championship match against Grand Rapids FC.
