Lansing United (3) v. Detroit Sun FC (2) - Friday, May 17, 2019

Detroit’s (1-1-0) Abby Hunt started the scoring early (8’) with an assist from Rachel DeLuca. Lansing (2-0-0) had a shot on goal a minute later, but Detroit’s Marina Manzo saved the point blank strike. Camryn Evans got on the end of a long clearance and slid it across the six to Kasey Jamieson to tie the match. Alexis Mitchell scored off a low cross from Athena Biondi, capitalizing on a corner right before half-time (45’). An Abby Hunt through ball down the middle from of the pitch led to a chipped shot from Detroit’s Gabriella Mencotti right over the keeper to re-tie the score (52’). With a neat cut and flick with the outside of her right foot, Camryn Evans scored the game winner for Lansing (68’). Lansing now sits alone atop the Midwest Standings.

Crazy 8’s this weekend as Ann Arbor’s (1-1-0) Jenna Smith also scored 8 minutes into the game. Just a few minutes later, (12’) Rachel Sweigard scored her first goal of the day. A mishit clearance of a corner led to an Ann Arbor own goal, pulling Grand Rapids (0-2-0) within one. A low cross led to a Morgan Otteson goal (41’) for Grand Rapids heading into the half. Jenna Smith layed a ball back across the 18 and Rachel Sweigard scored her second goal, 3-2 Ann Arbor (62’). Minutes later (67’) Rachel Sweigard completed her hat trick and five minutes later (72’), center back Susuho Yamasaki won a tackle, dribbled into space, cracked a shot, and scored from about 36 yards out.

Indiana Union (5) v. Michigan Legends (0) - Friday, May 17, 2019

A revamped organization off the field led to a revamped organization on it as the Indiana Union, formerly Indy Premier, posted it best result  in franchise history with a 5-0 win over the Michigan Legends. Cassidy Lindley (University of Florida) tallied two goals and an assist in the victory. The current Florida Gator started the new season in grand fashion scoring in just the second minute for Indiana.

Long Island Rough Riders (3) v. New Jersey Copa FC (1) - Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Alexa Schneider had a volley over the keeper’s head to give Long Island (1-2-0) the lead (23’) over New Jersey (1-1-0). Two minutes later, Angela Aguero scored in kind, with a quick turn, flick to herself, and half-volley of her own. A shot to the far post by Morgan Santoro proved to be the match-winner for Long Island (60’). Salma Tarik gave Long Island some insurance, a third goal, and 3 points. The two teams meet up in Week 3 in Jersey.

Connecticut Fusion (1) v. Lancaster Inferno (0) - Saturday, May 18, 2019

A header off a free kick was all that separated the two sides on Saturday night. Lily Fabian scored the game winner in the 76th minute. Lancaster (0-1-0) had their chances late with quite a few balls into the box, including a free kick from Teresa Rook, but was unable to make the connection and Connecticut (2-0-0) was able to close out the game, sitting in second place in the East standings.

New England Mutiny (4) v. Long Island Rough Riders (2) - Saturday, May 18, 2019

New England (2-0-0) got off to a fast start, scoring three goals (16’, 22’, 31’) within 15 minutes. Breukelen Woodard had the first goal and Kate Howarth the second two. Olivia White assisted on on Howarth’s second. Unfazed, Grace Hawkins scored for Long Island (1-2-0) five minutes later (36’) . Kate Howarth completed her hat trick with a header, assisted by Carrie Ellis (69’). Kayla Saager got one back for the Rough Riders (73’) but New England had already done enough.

Worcester Smiles (0) v. New Jersey Copa FC (3)  - Saturday, May 18, 2019

Christina Cernuto gave Copa (1-1-0) an early lead (10’) over Worcester (0-2-0) and they never looked back. Her shot from out wide sailed into the side net of the far post. Another long range shot, this time from Gabriella Carbone, gave New Jersey a two-goal lead early in the game (14’). Jurema Borini gave Copa their third goal and three points to take back home.

Rochester Lancers (1) v. Syracuse Development Academy (1) - Sunday, May 19, 2019

Rochester (0-0-1) had the early lead over Syracuse (0-0-1) in this battle of Upstate teams. However, late in the match (80’) Brooke Barbuto found Marissa Greiner streaking down the right-hand side of the field. Greiner cut the ball to her left foot and placed the ball into the side netting of the far post. Eighty miles separates the two sides on the map but nothing separated them on the pitch and they share the points.

The defending National Champions in United Women’s Soccer picked up where they left off last season as the houston Aces trounced the El Paso Surf 8-0 in the opening match for both teams. Colombian international Tatian Ariza tallied a hat trick for the road team.

Los Angeles Galaxy OC (4) v. Santa Clarita Blue Heat (0) - Sunday, May 19, 2019

Seven minutes into the game, Becca Wilson scored the opening goal for LA’s 2019 season. Katie Weisner beat the Santa Clarita (0-1-0) backline and chipped the keeper for a second LA  (1-0-0) goal. A long range shot by Jordan Marada found the back of the net (33’) to make the score 3-0 in favor of LA. A header from Natalie Jacobs sealed the deal and LA managed to beat the Heat, taking three points and first place in the West.
