Walker earns Defensive POTW in net; Boychuk named Offensive POTW

METUCHEN, NJ - Teams in the East and Midwest made their early season pitch for conference supremacy, while perennial powers in the Southwest and West survived upset alerts in United Women’s Soccer (UWS).

A rarity that a player on the wrong side of the scoreboard would garner Defensive Player of the Week, but it is hard to ignore a record-setting performance from Alexis Walker of the Colorado Pride. Walker stopped 15 shots from an offensive juggernaut in the Santa Clarita Blue Heat. The 15 saves were the most in a UWS match. The final score line read 2-0 for the road team, but Walker was beaten in the 69th minute and then in the waning moments when the Pride pressed for the equalizer.

For Offensive Player of the Week we travel north of the border in Canada, Calgary’s Tanya Boychuk was not keen on welcoming a second Canadian outfit to UWS. The Foothills forward scored four goals as Calgary defeated host Queen City of Saskatchewan 5-0 in their debut. Boychuk became the first UWS player to score a quartet of goals since Haley Crawford of Lancaster Inferno potted the same against WNY Flash last season.
