Playoffs start on Thursday, July 11; finals set for July 19-21

METUCHEN, NJ - United Women's Soccer (UWS) has released the format for the 2019 postseason. The regular season ends this weekend and the final push for playoff positioning in all four conferences in the national pro-am league will be in high gear. This year has seen UWS reach its fourth year in operation and there have been three different national champions (Santa Clarita - 2016; Grand Rapids - 2017; Houston - 2018). All three of those organizations still have a shot at becoming the first two-time national champion as they go into the final weekend of the regular season. For the full playoff format and postseason picture, see below:

EAST CONFERENCE

Four-team postseason playoff on the weekend of July 12-14. Top two seeds host Semifinal games. Highest remaining seed hosts Final and the winner will automatically qualify for the UWS National Championship (July 19-21). New England (7-0-2), Connecticut (6-0-2) and Lancaster (6-2-0) have qualified for the UWS East playoffs with only final placement to be determined. Syracuse (4-3-2) and Long Island (4-5-0) will battle each other this weekend for fourth-place and the final playoff spot. Rochester (2-4-2) is out of the postseason picture but can still play the spoiler role as they travel to face Lancaster this weekend.

MIDWEST CONFERENCE

Four-team postseason playoff occurs July 11-14. Top two seeds host Semifinal games. Highest remaining seed hosts Final and the winner will automatically qualify for the UWS National Championship (July 19-21). Lansing (8-0-1) has won the regular season title while Indiana (7-2-1) has wrapped up second-place. Third-place Grand Rapids FC (3-4-2) and fourth-place Detroit Sun (3-6-0) face each other on Sunday. Fifth-place Michigan (2-5-2) faces Lansing earlier on Sunday as well and still have a shot to pass Detroit if they win and the Sun lose/draw.

SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE

Regular season conference champion (Houston) plays in the National Quarterfinal against a Wild Card selection (opponent and date to be announced). Wild Card selection to be determined by the league's Competition Committee. Winner of National Quarterfinal qualifies for the UWS National Championship (July 19-21).

WEST CONFERENCE

Regular season champion automatically qualifies for the UWS National Championship (July 19-21). Calgary (5-1-1) and LA Galaxy OC (5-1-1) are currently tied in first-place while third-place Santa Clarita (5-2-0) are still in the running. SC and LA play on Saturday while Calgary faces last-place Colorado (0-6-0) on Sunday. The Blue Heat need a win against LA to stay in the race for the conference title. A draw will keep them in contention for Wild Card qualification. If there is a winner in the LA/SC match then that team would capture the West crown if Foothills WFC loses to the Pride. If the LA/SC match is a draw then Calgary only needs a single point on Sunday to clinch the regular season title.
