Detroit City FC joins the Midwest Conference of United Women's Soccer

METUCHEN, NJ - United Women's Soccer is excited to announce the addition of Detroit City Football Club, set to begin play in 2020.

A historic next step for Detroit City FC and women’s soccer in Detroit, the Detroit City FC women’s team will play its home matches at Keyworth Stadium and will play in the UWS Midwest Conference against the likes of AFC Ann Arbor, Detroit Sun FC, Grand Rapids FC, Indiana Union, Lansing United, and Michigan Legends.

The United Women’s Soccer summer season runs from May through July. Formed in 2015, UWS is a national league with teams playing in regional conferences and is the second division of women’s soccer, below the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

"Every year since our grassroots origins, we've strived to grow our organization in a sustainable manner with the goal of being a true club that represents our entire community," said Sean Mann, CEO of Detroit City FC. "Adding a women's team to the DCFC family is the right thing to do for the sake of our club, our supporters, the broader Detroit community and for the continued growth of the sport of soccer in this region.

“We appreciate being able to join several organizations in the UWS that we've already known for years and look forward to building out a staff and roster in the coming months that will bring Detroit a competitive side right out of the gate."

Detroit City FC will announce its technical staff for the women’s team in the coming months.

Season tickets for 2020 will cover all women’s team UWS regular season home matches, all men’s team NISA regular season home matches and all friendly matches.

Detroit City FC 2020 season tickets will go on sale to the public this Monday, September 30 at 10 AM ET at tickets.detcityfc.com.

“We are extremely excited to have one of the preeminent soccer organizations in the nation join UWS," said UWS League Commissioner, Joe Ferrara, Jr. "Detroit City matches provide an amazing atmosphere and their women’s side will be a great addition. I would be remiss not to mention the Detroit Sun and it’s owner Steve Hawthorne for their efforts in recognizing the value a club like Detroit City has for the league nationally and relishing the local derby that will showcase and promote women’s soccer in the Detroit metro area.”
