METUCHEN, NJ - United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is excited to announce the addition of MSC Peoria to the Midwest Conference for the 2020 season. The team will round out the conference lineup of teams as the second expansion organization from the state of Illinois. Last week, UWS announced the addition of Ladies Steel City F.C. who are based out of Joliet, IL. Stay tuned as the national pro-am league will announce the full UWS Midwest slate of games in the coming days.
Located in East Peoria, IL, the team was previously named Midwest Soccer Club as part of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). Home games will be played in the stadium at Eastside Centre: a premier athletic facility in East Peoria with an attendance capacity of 4,000. It also serves as the home field for East Peoria Community High School.
“We are very excited to join UWS and be able to play high level competition,” said club owner Sean Smith. “We started the Midwest Soccer Club a year ago to give girls in Downstate Illinois an opportunity to showcase their talent and to get to the next level.”
“Fate was on both of our sides when Sean Smith inquired about joining UWS,” said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara, Jr. “The organization had already completed the process of a business plan and application to join another league when we had just recently announced expansion into Illinois. This allowed us to streamline the vetting process and add the team into the 2020 calendar in short order as they hit on all the key elements that we look for in an expansion team.”
The coaching staff has thirty years of combined experience. The inaugural Head Coach of MSC Peoria will be Son Phan and he will be assisted by Malorie Fehl. Fehl currently serves as the assistant coach at her alma mater - Illinois Central College. Smith will serve as the team’s strength & conditioning coach. The newest member of the UWS Midwest will be holding tryouts on Saturday, March 14 from 10 AM - 1 PM at the Eastside Sports Complex (1 Eastside Drive, East Peoria, IL 61611).
