UWS welcomes Sporting CT

Metuchen, NJ – After a successful inaugural season in UWS League Two (UWS2), Middletown Sporting CT is moving to the first division of the national pro-am league. Sporting CT finished their 2022 debut as champions of the New England Conference. This upcoming season, they will field a First Team to compete in UWS and a U23 team to compete in UWS2 as an extension of their elite girls youth program. Stay tuned for the release of the 2023 game schedule this week.

“We are excited to welcome Sporting CT to the East Conference of United Women’s Soccer,” said League Commissioner Joe Ferrara. “The organization has shown its ability to excel on the field. The staff has demonstrated the professionalism we seek in our league.”

Matt Cameron returns to the coaching staff alongside 2022 UWS League Two Coach of the Year, Tiffany Weimer. The dynamic duo led Middletown Sporting CT to an undefeated season in their 2022 debut. Coach Cameron holds his USSF National A License and was named the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Coach of the Year in 2018. Coach Weimer is currently working towards her USSF National A License and is the Yale University Assistant Coach. In addition, she has been a standout player in the league since 2021 and was a 12-year professional player in 6 countries (US, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, and Canada). She is also Owner & Co-Founder of Duktig Brand – the official supplier of coaching notebooks for UWS.

“We are really excited for our Sporting CT players to have the opportunity to play in UWS League One this summer,” said Head Coach Tiffany Weimer. “After our inaugural season, we knew we were ready to take the next step and are proud to be able to offer our players this level of play. Providing a high level performance environment for players in CT is something I am extremely passionate about. Sporting is paving the way for what girls and women deserve in this state and this is just the beginning.”

Middletown Sporting CT is part of Middletown Youth Soccer which was founded in 1974 and later established itself as the premier branch, Sporting CT, in 2012. The Club’s goal is to provide the best possible coaching and support resources to enable each player to develop to their full potential, both as soccer players and as individuals. Through the club’s commitment to providing the finest staff possible, their ambition is to produce players capable of competing at the: ODP/Region 1, Collegiate, Professional and International levels.

“We are very happy for our Sporting CT women players to have the opportunity to join UWS League One,” said Club President Frank Marchese. “We had a great first season in 2022, players and coaches were committed and worked very hard. MYS/Sporting CT is proud to be able to provide these elite athletes in Connecticut this high level performance in the UWS national pro-am league.”
