Opening weekend in New England

Metuchen, NJ — The 2023 Summer of Soccer in UWS is ready to go this season with over 130 games to be played between May 13th through July 15th in four different regions around the United States and Canada leading up to the playoffs and concluding with the National Championship scheduled for July 22-23 (Location TBA).

It has been close to 300 days since the 2022 season concluded with a thrilling National Championship matchup at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, MA that showcased many UWS athletes and displayed three great matches along with an eventual championship that saw the Chicago Mustangs defeat a strong Calgary Foothills team.

The 2023 Season will be just as good if not better and a lot of hype to build off of as the UWS saw six former players drafted in the first ten picks of the 2023 NWSL Draft in Philadelphia.

Saturday, May 13 

NE Mutiny vs Worcester Fuel FC

Start Time: 7:00 PM EST

Venue: Lusitano Stadium (Ludlow, MA) 

The 2023 season begins where the previous season concluded in Ludlow, MA as the Mutiny plays host to a close and familiar rival in Worcester. Worcester comes into the campaign with a new identity as it is no longer the Smiles, but Worcester Fuel FC. The Mutiny see a lot of players returning this season after an impressive 9-win 2022 that saw them come up short in the playoffs in a 2-1 loss to FC Buffalo. The Fuel comes in with a new look and high hopes in 2023 as they have reloaded with a lot of local talent as well as many strong returning players in hopes of starting the season off on the right foot.

United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is a national pro-am league founded in December 2015 on the basis of providing equality, opportunity, and respect for the women’s game. UWS has proven to be an innovative league that has paved the way for the further advancement of women’s soccer. Eighty-plus teams based in the United States and Canada comprise two distinct levels of competition: UWS and UWS League Two (UWS2).

With over 38 NWSL draftees & 100 professional contracts to its name, UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring & former professionals, and international stars. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship.
