Catherine Barry earns Offensive Player of the Week

Metuchen, NJ – The 2023 UWS season began where the 2022 season ended, in Ludlow, Massachusetts, as the ever-growing East Conference kicked off play a week earlier than most. The New England Mutiny hosted the Worcester Fuel in a thrilling 7-1 match on Saturday evening, with Catherine Barry leading the charge for the Mutiny and securing the first Offensive Player of the Week award for the 2023 season.

Catherine Barry – New England Mutiny 

Catherine Barry opened up the 2023 UWS season with a bang, tallying four goals and one assist in the Mutiny’s opening game against the Worcester Fuel. Barry, the starting center forward for the Mutiny, returned to the side having made a big name for herself in the 2022 season. In 2022, she played an instrumental role in New England’s offense totaling 16 points for the season (8 goals). Barry’s clinical finishing, creativity on the ball, and consistency throughout an intense season secured her a spot on the 2022 East Conference First Team. She will be a player to watch again this year.

Catherine Barry and the New England Mutiny will be back in action for Week 2 on Sunday, May 21 at 7 p.m. EDT against UWS newcomers, Maine Footy. Coppermine United and Lancaster Inferno will start Week 2 play on Saturday, May 20 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Action can be found throughout the weekend in the East, Central, and West conferences. 

Week 1: Goals of the Week

Week 1 may have only featured two teams on the field, but it certainly didn’t lack excitement, as a total of eight goals were scored, setting the tone for an electrifying start to the season. This year, the UWS Goal of the Week award returns. The winning goal will be decided via voting on Twitter through the official UWS account (@UWSSoccer) and an official announcement will be made on Saturdays morning during the UWS Kickoff Show co-hosted by Jonathan Ward and Megan Warner.
