Another week of soccer and a great first impression from some seasoned clubs

Metuchen, NJ — Week three of the UWS Summer of Soccer didn’t disappoint as teams started their season on the right foot. Some teams bounced back, while others are still getting acclimated to each other with hopes of getting on track.

East Division

Friday, May 26

Worcester Fuel FC 1 vs Albany Rush 7

After starting off the season with 1 win under their belt, the Albany Rush visited Worcester with plans to earn another 3 points. Once again, Albany’s Katelyn Krohn was dominant in scoring 4 goals in 65 minutes of action while Katie Hotaling was pulling the strings distributing and grabbing two assists in the match. Layal Khartabil scored the lone goal for Worcester Fuel in a hard-fought match.

Saturday, May 27 

FC Berlin 2 vs Erie Commodores 3

FC Berlin hosted a hungry Erie side that came away from their last match with 1 point while looking to stay in the fight for the Eastern Conference crown. The match had FC Berlin up 2-0, though Erie made a triumphant comeback, scoring 3 goals. FC Berlin will be back in action this Friday as they host Steel City FC.

Flower City 1872 1 vs BC United 6

BC United traveled to Rochester, NY after earning 1 point in a draw with Keystone FC. Flower City got on the board first in the 14th minute, however BC United recovered with six unanswered goals with a hat trick from Maya Anand, a brace for Olivia McKnight, and a goal for Victoria McKnight. Flower City 1872 has a quick turnaround as they travel to face Buffalo FC this Friday, while BC United faces Lancaster Inferno this coming Sunday.

FC Buffalo 2 vs Steel City FC 0

FC Buffalo has continued to showcase their talent in the East as they came out on top again in another hard-fought match against Steel City FC. The match was a hard fought battle by both teams. Last Week’s Offensive Player of the Week, Marcy Barberic (FC Buffalo), scored a goal from an assist by Sarah Woods, and Baberic continued her scoring streak off an assist from Carissima Cutrona.

Midwest Division

Saturday, May 20 

Indiana Union 0 vs Cincinnati Sirens 2

In their first match of the season, Indiana Union fell to the Cincinnati Sirens with goals from Makala Woods and Morgan White who helped Cincinnati get their first win and jump to the top of the table in the Midwest. Indiana looks to bounce back as they get ready for another competitive summer of soccer.

West Division

Saturday, May 27

SC Blue Heat 9 vs Reno Vikings 0

Santa Clarita Blue Heat hosted the Reno Vikings on Saturday in a display of dominance. Blue Heat entered the game to send a message to the West with braces from Olufolasade Adamolekun, Alexis Nguyen, Amanda Perez, and a goal each from Kana Uchida, Cameron Valladares, and Elizabeth Worden. Reno has a short week between matches as they host Calgary Foothills this Thursday.

Sunday, May 28

Calgary Foothills 2 vs Los Angeles SC 1

Last season’s West Conference Champions started their 2023 debut with a victory over Los Angeles SC. It was a hard fought battle between two great teams. Both teams will face each other again in Los Angeles on June 22nd.

United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is a national pro-am league founded in December 2015 on the basis of providing equality, opportunity, and respect for the women’s game. UWS has proven to be an innovative league that has paved the way for the further advancement of women’s soccer. Eighty-plus teams based in the United States and Canada comprise two distinct levels of competition: UWS and UWS League Two (UWS2).

With over 38 NWSL draftees & 100 professional contracts to its name, UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring & former professionals, and international stars. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship.
