Metuchen, NJ — The third week of UWS play brought a host of thrilling matches from narrow victories to dominating performances, as action was seen in the East, Midwest, and West divisions. 

Taylor Spiller’s exceptional performance, maintaining a clean sheet for the Cincinnati Sirens, earned her Goalkeeper of the Week honors for Week three. Spiller made a total of five saves in the team’s 2-0 victory over Indiana Union and played a crucial role in the Sirens’ build-up play.

Grace Stordy secured Defensive Player of the Week with an impressive 90-minute display at outside back. Stordy’s endurance meant she was also an attacking threat contributing an assist for Calgary Foothill’s tying goal by beating three players before putting a dangerous cross into the box.

Albany Rush’s forward, Katelyn (Katie) Krohn showed her goal-scoring prowess by tallying four goals to be named Offensive Player of the Week. Krohn led her team from the front to ensure her side took the three points to place them atop the East Division. She now now sits as the leading scoring for the 2023 season with seven goals in two games.

Team of the Week

GK – Taylor Spiller was one of three goalkeepers to maintain a clean sheet in week three, totaling five saves during the Sirens’ 2-0 beating of Indiana Union. Spiller demonstrated that her role is much more than a shot-stopper but a leader from the back utilizing her foot skills to start build up play.

D – Grace Stordy was a standout player for Calgary Foothills in their season-opening victory against Los Angeles Soccer Player. Stordy’s speed, individual skills, ability to connect, and endurance meant she was up and down the right flank throughout the 90 minutes, creating opportunities for her team and denying her opponents. 

D – Olivia Dixon demonstrated how impactful a substitute can be as Erie Commodores’ Head Coach called upon the young 16-year-old to solidify the left side of the field after they found themselves 2-0 down. Dixon’s tenacity and confidence shone through, and not only did she shut down her opponents but also contributed to the attack in her team’s comeback win. 

M – Grace Hotaling was an impactful member of Albany Rush’s midfield, tallying two assists in the side’s dominating 7-1 victory over Worcester Fuel FC. 

M – Ella Fadale played an essential role in Erie Commodores’ turnaround victory over FC Berlin as she scored the game-tying goal with a header from a freekick. Fadale also demonstrated her strength in midfield, dominating aerial duels and breaking up play. 

F – *Katelyn (Katie) Krohn’s impeccable goal-scoring form continued into Albany Rush’s second game of the season as she boasted four goals in the side’s 7-1 win over Worcester Fuel. 

F – *Carissima Cutrona showcased her confidence and class in FC Buffalo’s 2-0 victory over Steel City FC, consistently taking on defenders, combining with teammates, and scoring the side’s opening goal. 

F – Olufolasade (Sade) Adamolekun led from the front in Santa Clarita Blue Heat’s impressive 9-goal outing, recording a brace. Adamolekun’s high energy and skill on the ball caused trouble throughout the 90 minutes of play.

F – Mya Jones continued her impeccable form of the 2022 season, demonstrating why she was named 2022 All-United Women’s Soccer Most Valuable Player. Jones contributed two goals in Calgary Foothill’s season-opening 2-1 win against Los Angeles Soccer Club.

F – Alexis Nguyen played a key part in the Santa Clarita Blue Heat offense, using her creativity and vision on the ball to create a number of dangerous attacks. She also scored two of the team’s nine goals.
