Metuchen, NJ — Week four of the 2023 summer of soccer did not disappoint as teams across North America continued to showcase their talent. 

Alessandra Augur’s stellar performance between the posts for Connecticut Rush sees her claim Goalkeeper of the Week for Week four. Augur demonstrated outstanding shot-stopping capabilities; her agility and quick reflexes proved vital to keep her team in the game against Maine Footy as she totaled 12 saves.

Phoebe Canoles earns Defensive Player of the Week for her contributions at both ends of the field in Coppermine United’s two victories during week four. Canoles and her backline allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of soccer, and she recorded a goal and an assist.

Marcy Barberic’s four goals and three assists secure Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Barberic led the FC Buffalo attack in an impressive 10-1 victory over Flower City.

Team of the Week

GK – Alessandra Augur made a total of 12 saves in her 90-minute outing against Maine Footy. Augur was tested throughout the game in many different ways, from aerial crosses to close-range shots, and showed leadership to organize and encourage her team. 

D – Phoebe Canoles controlled the Coppermine United backline demonstrating her skills both on and off the ball to build from the back and coordinate her backline in back-to-back wins this weekend. Canoles also scored the opening goal, as well as tallying an assist in her team’s 3-0 victory over Keystone FC. 

D – Sydney Vermillion showcased her class and experience to help lead SC Blue Heat to a last-minute 1-0 victory against LASC. Vermillion was tested across the 90 minutes as the last line of defense but stood strong to slow down attacks and distribute the ball when in posession.

D – Marissa DiGenova was a standout player for the Inferno, playing both right back and midfield in a close 2-2 battle against BC United. DiGenova created attacking opportunities in both positions and broke up play for BC United. She calmly scored from the penalty spot and also contributed an assist in a tight 2-2 tie. 

M – Maddy Perez was a key player in Blue Heat’s 1-0 victory over LASC, preventing dangerous attacks and finding teammates to quickly counter. Perez started out as center back before moving into the midfield and was a calming presence in all areas of the field. 

M – Isabel Monck contributed a brace in Calgary Foothill’s 3-1 win over FC Arizona. Monck dominated the midfield, winning many interceptions and showcased great ability to join the attack.

F – Marcy Barberic* continued her impeccable goal-scoring form, contributing four goals and three assists in FC Buffalo’s dominating 10-1 victory over Flower City. Barbaric’s intelligent runs and ability to create space caused many problems for the Flower City backline. 

F – Tiffany Weimer scored two goals in Sporting CT’s 3-1 win against Worcester Fuel. Weimer’s attacking eye and ability to create made her a constant threat to the Fuel defense. 

F – Olufolasade (Sade) Adamolekun* was an influential player for Blue Heat, constantly looking to break lines and create goal-scoring opportunities in a close 1-0 victory against LASC. Adamolekun’s movement to drop in and receive, run in behind, and whip crosses in from the wing made her constant threat. 

F – Miranda Weslake scored four goals and tallied two assists in the Cincinatti Siren’s emphatic 13-0 win over RBFC. Weslake’s work rate was relentless to win the ball high up the field and was a key player in the Sirens’ attack. 

F – Makala Woods played an important role building the attack for the Sirens, totaling three assists in Cincinatti’s 13-0 victory over RBFC. Additionally. Woods demonstrated her eye for goal recording her first hat trick of the season.

Week 4 Goals & Saves of the Week

Week four saw the highest number of goals scored in the 2023 season, with a remarkable total of 66. However, goalkeepers across the league also rose to the occasion with many impressive saves being made in a variety of games. Goal of the Week and Save of the Week polls can be found on the official UWS Twitter page (@UWSSoccer) and the winners will be announced on Saturday morning during the UWS Kickoff Show co-hosted by Jonathan Ward and Megan Warner.

United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is a national pro-am league founded in December 2015 on the basis of providing equality, opportunity, and respect for the women’s game. UWS has proven to be an innovative league that has paved the way for the further advancement of women’s soccer. Eighty-plus teams based in the United States and Canada comprise two distinct levels of competition: UWS and UWS League Two (UWS2).

With over 38 NWSL draftees & 100 professional contracts to its name, UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring & former professionals, and international stars. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship.
