Metuchen, NJ — The summer of soccer 2023 continues to bring competitive games, with many individuals finding their rhythm after five weeks of UWS play. 

Jordan LeVasseur’s brave and tenacious performance, most notably in dealing with crosses entering her box, for Futsal Factory Academy, kept them in a close 1-0 game, earning her Goalkeeper of the Week honors for Week five. 

Marissa Salisbury of Steel City FC secured the title of Defensive Player of the Week with her impressive performance against FC Berlin. Salisbury displayed calmness and composure as a leader at the back, while also taking opportunities to join the attack and contributing two of her team’s seven goals.

Olufolasade (Sade) Adamolekun’s outstanding performance during week five earned her Offensive Player of the Week honors. Adamolekun made a significant impact in Santa Clarita Blue Heat’s game against LASC, constantly posing a threat with her speed and ball control. Her hard work paid off with two goals, bringing her season total to four goals in three games.

Team of the Week

GK – Jordan LeVasseur was kept busy during an intense game against the Michigan Legends. LeVasseur’s exceptional composure and skill shone through ad she consistently stepped up to make crucial saves at key moments throughout the game, totaling an impressive 12 saves.

D – Grace Stordy* proved to be instrumental in Calgary Foothills’ triumph over FC Arizona, not only ensuring a clean sheet but also contributing significantly to their 2-0 victory.  Stordy provided the assists for both goals, enabling her team to secure their fourth consecutive win of the season. 

D – Marissa Salisbury exhibited her dominance on the field for Steel City FC during their resounding 7-0 victory against FC Berlin. Playing a pivotal role at both ends of the pitch, Salisbury showcased her scoring prowess by netting two goals for her team.

D – Sydney Taylor demonstrated class and leadership to ensure the Cincinnati Sirens backline kept a clean sheet. She also showcased her ability on the ball, finding dangerous passes into her teammates. 

M – Kana Uchida played the box-to-box midfielder role to perfection, finding an excellent balance between her desire to attack and willingness to defend. Uchida also contributed an assist for Santa Clarita Blue Heat’s 3-1 win in the Hollywood Derby. 

M – Jenna Lang was a dominating force in the Indiana Union attack, leading her side with four goals in addition to tallying two assists in an outstanding performance that resulted in a total of 17 goals against RBFC.

M – Kennedy Kessler played a pivotal role for Luxoria FC, guiding them to their second win of the season and securing the top spot in the Southwest Division. Kessler’s impressive performance included scoring two goals and consistently posing a threat to the ATX Blues’ defense

F – Emma Antoine led Indiana Union in assists during her team’s 17-0 victory totaling four to showcase her playmaker abilities. Antoine also demonstrated her goal-scoring abilities by netting her first and second goals of the season. 

F – Olufolasade (Sade) Adamolekun* continues to demonstrate her class both on and off the ball, tallying two important goals in Santa Clarita Blue Heat’s 3-1 victory over Los Angeles Soccer Club. Adamolekun’s creative runs, impressive ball control, and powerful strikes made her a constant threat throughout the 90 minutes of play. 

F – Tiffany Weimer* continued her impressive goal-scoring form, recording three goals and one assist in Sporting Connecticut’s dominating 6-1 victory against Maine Footy.  

F – Ellery Winkler (CT Rush) showcased her dominance by scoring four goals in the first half of her team’s 7-0 win against Worcester Fuel. Her relentless efforts and constant pressure on the Fuel’s defense made her a highly influential player in the match.

United Women’s Soccer (UWS) is a national pro-am league founded in December 2015 on the basis of providing equality, opportunity, and respect for the women’s game. UWS has proven to be an innovative league that has paved the way for the further advancement of women’s soccer. Eighty-plus teams based in the United States and Canada comprise two distinct levels of competition: UWS and UWS League Two (UWS2).

With over 38 NWSL draftees & 100 professional contracts to its name, UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring & former professionals, and international stars. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship.
