Metuchen, NJ — Week six was a jam-packed week with numerous teams in action. Some squads even played both evening matchups under the lights in addition to the classic weekend games. 

Coppermine United’s Alyssa Minnick earns Goalkeeper of the Week honors for Week six after two impressive performances leading to six points, conceding just once in 180 minutes of play. In Coppermine’s weekend match against BC United, Minnick was put to the test multiple times, pulling off some impressive saves to maintain a clean sheet and help earn her side three points. 

Erie Commodores’ right back, Rebecka Habursky, secures Defensive Player of the Week after an outstanding performance contributing two goals and one assist in an intense high-scoring affair against FC Berlin. Habursky shut down her side of the field defensively to ensure her team came out on top.

Margaret Osmundson’s contributions during Los Angeles Soccer Club’s two games during Week six earned her Offensive Player of the Week. LASC played back-to-back games over the weekend, and Osmundson’s attacking prowess shone through. In game one, Osmundson scored the game-winning goal in a close battle against FC Arizona and contributed a goal against the Vikings to ensure it was a six-point weekend for her side.

Team of the Week

GK – Alyssa Minnick demonstrated her abilities as a well-rounded goalkeeper throughout week six, making impressive saves from both close and long range. Additionally, her confidence on the ball to distribute and strong communication skills helped lead from the back.

D – Rebecka Habursky was on fire from the very beginning of the game, securing her first goal wihtin two minutes and tallying another and an assist within the first 15. Defensively, Habursky held her own against a persistent FC Berlin side and played an important role to secure the Commodores’ second win of the season.

D – Grace Stordy* continues to prove a pivotal player for Calgary Foothills, contributing in all areas of the field. In an intense battle between two undefeated teams, Stordy ensured her team put an end to SC Blue Heat’s winning streak with many last-ditch tackles and recovery runs, placing Calgary atop the West division.

D – Sonia Rada* led the Coppermine backline to a six-point week, keeping her side hot on the heels of FC Buffalo and Sporting CT in the East division. Rada continues to impress with her tactical awareness and technical ability. 

D – Emma Klein put on an impressive display at center back for FC Buffalo, helping the team keep a clean sheet during their 3-0 win against FC Berlin. Klein has been an important member of an impressive Buffalo backline that has conceded just two goals and won all five of their games. 

M – Brooke Bailey exhibited an impressive performance during Indiana Union’s 5-1 victory over Edgewater Castle. Bailey stood out for both her defensive duties of breaking up play and shutting down key players, as well as her offensive capabilities, scoring two goals and creating multiple chances for her teammates.

M – Momo Nakao proved to be the difference-maker for Calgary Foothill’s as her side battled SC Blue Heat for the top spot in the West division. Nakao created multiple chances for her teammates but most noticeably created the pivotal moment in the game when she drew a foul in the box and subsequently, converted from the spot to lead her team to a 1-0 victory.

F – Margaret Osmundson was an attacking threat for Los Angeles Soccer Club in back-to-back games, leading her team to a six-point weekend. Osmundson found the all-important game-winning goal against FC Arizona and also notched a goal in her team’s 2-0 win over the Reno Vikings.

F – Courtney Andruczk had an impressive week making her presence known in two games with her physicality, speed, and technical skills. In Keystone’s second game of the week, Andruczk’s attacking prowess proved too much to handle as she contributed two goals and an assist in her side’s 5-0 victory over NJ Copa FC.

F – Tegan Morrison was a standout player for FC Berlin during week six. In the side’s midweek clash against division leaders FC Buffalo, Morrison proved to be a dangerous threat. However, it was in the team’s weekend matchup where she truly shone, comfortably converting from the penalty spot twice and tallying an assist.

F – Hannah Sawyer showcased her attacking talents recording a hat trick during the Cincinatti Siren’s 7-0 victory over RBFC. Sawyer scored one of the quickest goals in UWS history, finding the back of the net after just 12 seconds.

Week 5 Goals & Saves of the Week

In the sixth week of UWS action, a remarkable 82 goals were scored with the majority of games involving a minimum of three goals. The attacking forces across the league meant goalkeepers were put to the test but many stepped up with impressive saves in key moments of games. UWS has proven to be an innovative league that has paved the way for the further advancement of women’s soccer. Eighty-plus teams based in the United States and Canada comprise two distinct levels of competition: UWS and UWS League Two (UWS2).

With over 38 NWSL draftees & 100 professional contracts to its name, UWS provides high-level competition for college players, aspiring & former professionals, and international stars. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship.
