EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - In the continuing manner of many international soccer clubs, Swansea City Ladies F.C. of the Welsh Premier Women’s League (WPWL) will travel to the United States for preseason this summer. On Friday, June 24 at Morristown Beard School in Morristown, NJ, Swansea City will take on New Jersey Copa F.C. of United Women’s Soccer (UWS) in an international friendly (6:30 PM kickoff).
The match vs. NJCFC will be part of the three-game tour for the two-time WPWL champions as they prepare for the 2016-17 season. The two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League participants will also take on Jersey United Spartans (Tuesday, June 21) and Player Development Academy (PDA) Soccer (Wednesday, June 22) in Morristown.
"Everyone is extremely excited about our preseason tour to New Jersey," said SCLFC manager Ian Owen, whose team currently resides in 2nd-place in the WPWL. "The opportunity to compete against players from the top women’s footballing nation in the world is fantastic.
"As a coach, to test my players in this environment is very appealing and I am looking forward to the challenge."
"We are excited to welcome the Swansea City Ladies to the U.S. and to have them be part of our inaugural season in UWS," said NJCFC President Roberto Aguas. "To have one of the top teams in Europe as a mid-season friendly is something we truly are looking forward to.
"We expect this game to be very competitive… but we look forward to comparing and contrasting the styles and level of play between our two clubs."
