New York Magic Ready For UWS Experience

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The 18-year journey in pro-am women’s soccer has reached a new destination for the New York Magic, as they take part in the East Conference of United Women’s Soccer (UWS) this season. In anticipation of the team’s season-opening road match on Saturday against their old rivals in the New England Mutiny at East Longmeadow High School (7:00 PM kickoff), the Magic have officially announced ten player signings.

Abrahams is a returning player for the Magic and was the 2012 CUNY Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year for Brooklyn College as well as a 2013 ECAC Second Team All-Star and CUNYAC First Team All-Star. Arjoon and Taylor suited up for Trinidad and Tobago with the U-20 National Team and the recent CONCACAF Olympic qualifiers. Arjoon was an All-Star and MVP in the Caribbean Football Union, while Taylor was named All-Conference First Team in 2014-15 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2014.

Brock (a newcomer to the Magic) was named All-Centennial Conference First Team and Mid-Atlantic All Region First Team for Swarthmore College. Depken was named to the 2013 USL W-League All Northeastern Conference Team and was a Finalist for 2013 Goalkeeper of the Year. Krol (another Magic returnee) was a Academic Atlantic-10 selection at the University of Rhode Island and was All-Conference and a State Champion in high school.

Morales Palmero was named to the 2015 NEC All-Conference First Team and the 2014 NEC All-Rookie Team for Saint Francis University. Rokitowski is another Magic returnee who was a standout defender for SUNY New Paltz. Sanau Ruiz was a 2015 NEWMAC All-Conference First Team selection for Mount Holyoke as she recorded 15 goals and one assist. Tomochika (another Magic newcomer) started in all 19 games last season for the AIC Yellow Jackets.

After this Saturday’s 2016 opener, the Magic travel again to face New Jersey Copa F.C. at Mercer Community College on Saturday, May 28 (4:30 PM kickoff). The home opener for New York happens a little less than a month from now as they host the TSF Academy Valkyries at Iona College on Saturday, June 11 (4:00 PM kickoff).
