EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - After two disappointing results at home, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat were triumphant after their 2-1 win over the Real Salt Lake Women this past Saturday. The victory has moved the Blue Heat (2-1-2) up to third place in the West Conference of United Women’s Soccer (UWS) and the team is back in the title race. Santa Clarita has two of their 2016 stalwarts to thank for the come-back win over RSL (3-2-1).

Midfielder Chloe Castaneda and defender Yadira Toraya have been two players Head Coach Guilherme Mitrovitch has counted on this year, as they’re among the team leaders in minutes played and have appeared in every match. Castaneda was a key figure in the Blue Heat midfield and was instrumental in her team’s come-from-behind victory. Toraya has been a force to deal with in both defense and offense this season, as her assist on the game-winning goal puts her second on the team in scoring (two goals, two assists).

For their efforts, Castaneda and Toraya have been named the West Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
