The GVSU legend ended her stellar collegiate career last fall

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Grand Rapids Football Club is proud to announce that midfielder Marti Corby has been added to their women’s squad for the upcoming United Women's Soccer (UWS) season. Corby was eligible for the recent National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Draft after the end of her stellar Grand Valley State University career and last year was called up to U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team training camp.

“Marti is one of West Michigan’s top players so she is someone we have pursued from day one and we are very excited she has decided to play with us this summer,” said GRFC Women’s Head Coach Lewis Robinson. “She is an attacking midfielder that can create and score goals but most importantly she has great experience at the high levels and knows what it takes to win. Having worked with Marti before I am really looking forward to having her with us this summer!”

Corby ended her GVSU career as one of the most prolific Division II players of all time with three National Championship titles. The Ada, Michigan native is at the top of many career records: 1st in program history in assists (61) and games played (102), 3rd in total points (183), 4th in total goals (61) and game-winning goals (18) and second in games started (96).

Marti became just the second two-time recipient of the NSCAA Player of the Year award when she was awarded the title in 2014 and 2015, and was named the 2015 D2CCA Player of the Year as well. She is a four-time NSCAA and D2CCA All-American after becoming a four-time All-Midwest Region First Team selection, and repeated as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 after earning the same title one season prior.

“I’m overjoyed to be able to continue my soccer career with this organization,” said Corby. “The men’s side has done tremendous things, and I have belief that with the talent of the players that the team has signed thus far, the women can continue that trend. I’m unbelievably excited to work with the coaching staff; each and every one of them are amazing leaders and teachers of the game.

“I can’t thank GRFC enough for giving us women the opportunity to play the game we love, right here in Grand Rapids. Really looking forward to representing my hometown and playing with some of my best friends!”
