UWS Week I: Team Of The Week

Inaugural edition of the league-wide weekly honors

METUCHEN, NJ - The opening weekend of action in United Women’s Soccer (UWS) has concluded and the results were emblematic of early-season form: success was up to those teams who could both maximize their individual talent and take advantage of their opponent’s search for consistency. In the East Conference, the top two teams from last season - New Jersey Copa FC and the New England Mutiny - started strong. In the Midwest, three teams made early statements of intent in the battle for the conference crown.

To laud the efforts of the players in our increasingly expanding national pro-am league, UWS management will release weekly league-wide honors this season. The UWS Team Of The Week will feature those individual performances that are nominated by the coaching staffs of our member teams. Without further adieu, here is the inaugural edition for Week I of UWS action:

F JEANINE NUNEZ (New Jersey Copa FC) - goal, assist in 6-0 win vs. Rochester
MF VERONICA ZACIEK (Toledo Villa FC) - 2 goals in 3-0 win at Indy Premier SC
MF ANNA STINSON (GRFC Women) - 2 goals in 3-1 win vs. Michigan Legends FC
MF KATARINA NILSSON (New Jersey Copa FC) - 2 goals in 6-0 win vs. Rochester
MF MARTI CORBY (GRFC Women) - 2 assists in 3-1 win vs. MLFC
MF RILEY HOULE (New England Mutiny) - goal, assist in 5-1 win vs. Rochester
D MORGAN ABBITT (Toledo Villa FC) - played all 90 minutes in 3-0 shutout at IPSC
D FAITH DALEY (New York Surf) - strong defense in 1-0 shutout vs. WNY Flash
D JACKIE MAZZARRA (Detroit Sun FC) - played all 90 minutes in 3-0 shutout at FCI
GK CAITLYN CLEM (Detroit Sun FC) - made 5 saves in 3-0 shutout at FCI

About United Women’s Soccer (UWS): UWS is a national women’s soccer league sanctioned by U.S. Soccer through the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). UWS is a professionally operated league created for teams that meet high minimum standards. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship match.
