CALGARY, ALB - Calgary Foothills WFC of United Women's Soccer (UWS) is proud to announce that they have signed Olympian and Canadian National goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé for the remainder of the 2018 season. Labbé brings world-class skill and experience to the team, adding to its talented roster of national team players. Most notably, the 31-year-old player has won a Bronze Medal for Canada at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and has had a strong career representing at the national & international level since making her debut in the Canadian youth program at the age of fifteen.

"I am extremely grateful for the Foothills staff for giving me the opportunity to stay sharp as I prepare for the next phase in my professional career," said Labbé. "I have been welcomed by the team and staff of the Calgary Foothills WFC and am excited to bring my experience to this group and continue to grow the game in Canada."

Professionally, Labbé has played in the Damallsvenskan - the top flight of women's soccer in Sweden - followed by the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Most recently, she trained with the Calgary Foothills FC PDL Men's team where she was accepted as one of the team's three goalkeepers before she was denied by the league and their gender policies.

"We are very much looking forward to the opportunity of working with Steph, whom in the short time I've known her has exhibited absolute class with respect to professionalism on and off the field," said Calgary Head Coach and General Manager Troye Flannery. "I can't stress enough how important her involvement is to the young players on our current roster and all young players whom aspire to pursue the game at the next level.

"We have a legitimate world class star in the prime of her career and are grateful for both the opportunity to learn from her as well as provide a short-term platform to facilitate the next step in her journey in what is an exceptional league littered with international talent. We are passionate about providing female Canadian talent an elite platform to showcase their ability and will continue to advocate for their recognition."

Labbé is no stranger to UWS-caliber competition as she was goalkeeper for the New England Mutiny (2006-08) who currently compete in the UWS East. Stephanie played collegiately for the University of Connecticut.

"Having known Steph for nearly 10 years, I have tremendous respect for her as a player and a person," said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara, Jr. "Seeing her career develop since her days with the New England Mutiny has been tremendous and should be an example to all young players what can be accomplished through dedication and hard work."
