Week III: UWS Team of the Week

McKibben fires Rush to a comeback victory, Martyn scores, anchors defense

Metuchen, NJ – The action was fast and furious in Week III of the 2018 UWS season as goals were flying in across matches in each conference. Three debutant franchises, LA Galaxy OC Women, Genesee FC and Worcester Smiles, also recorded their first ever results in UWS play, including the Smiles picking up a victory against their in-state rivals.

A large part of Inferno Rush’s wild second half comeback was keyed by forward Tesa McKibben, who scored and assisted the game winner in the final moments of the match. She netted the UWS Offensive Player of the Week while Tori Martyn picked up UWS Defensive Player of the Week honors for helping Calgary Foothills WFC to post a clean sheet against Real Salt Lake Women, along with scoring a goal as well.

UWS TEAM OF THE WEEK (WEEK III)

GK Brittany Henderson (Worcester Smiles) – Posted a big save on breakaway; consistently broke up attack for first win in franchise history

D Jacey Pederson (Santa Clarita Blue Heat) – US International and UCLA star with strong performance in 1-1 draw vs. LA Galaxy OC Women

D Tori Martyn (Calgary Foothills WFC) – Defensively stout in road shutout with set piece goal for good measure

D Alia Frederick (Michigan Legends) – solid backline performance in shutout of Genesee

D Natalie Jacobs (LA Galaxy OC Women) – US International excelled in LA’s first ever match vs. Santa Clarita

M Amber Hoot (Fort Wayne Gryphons) – great midfield play in match vs. Indy Premier

M Yvonne Northover (Calgary Foothills WFC) – Midfield standout in road win at Real Salt Lake Women

M Hayley Nolan (CT Fusion) – Scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner vs. Rochester Lancers

F Jodian Morris (Grand Rapids FC) – Continued fine run of form with a goal and drew a penalty that set up the winner vs. Detroit

F Milene Cabral (Santa Clarita Blue Heat) – Netted a late equalizing goal vs. LA Galaxy OC Women

F Tesa McKibben (Inferno Rush) – Scored a goal and had an assist in a stunning come-from-behind victory vs. New York Surf

HONORABLE MENTION

GK Annabelle Hegeman (Genesee FC) – keeps impressing for first-year team, posted a 10-save clean sheet vs. Fort Wayne

M Grace Labadie (Grand Rapids FC) – Scored a goaL and controlled midfield in rivalry match vs. Detroit

M Amber Marshall (Real Salt Lake Women) – Strong midfield play in the loss to Calgary

F Tori Sousa (CT Fusion) – Scored a pair of goals in the victory over Rochester

M Sydney Fisher (Worcester Smiles) – Scored a goal and was dominant in the midfield for the franchises’ first win ever

M Theresa Rynier (Inferno Rush) – Scored a goal and had an assist in the victory over New York Surf

M Chelsey Patterson (LA Galaxy OC Women) – solid in the midfield against the Santa Clarita Blue Heat
