HOU offense continues to roll, NTX sweep series over HAR FC

SATURDAY, JUNE 16

HAR FC 0, NORTH TEXAS IMAGE 3

HOUSTON, TX – For the second straight week, North Texas Image were able to overpower HAR FC as Joe Soliz’s team swept the home-and-home series with a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. Valiree Morris found the back of the net for the second consecutive match as she opened the scoring in the 28th minute, finishing off Mackenzie Scovill’s service. The visitors took that 1-0 lead into the second half and were struggling to find an insurance goal for the early portion of the second stanza. But in the span of three minutes, NTX were able to put the match away with a pair of goals. Second half substitute Jessica Dowse, who entered the contest in the 53rd minute, finished off a solo effort in the 68th minute and then just two minutes later, Scovill finished off Jennyfer Caracheo’s ball to round out the scoring. That goal capped off a three-point night for Scovill and also extended her goal-scoring streak to two game. Cindy Castillo and Courtney Burnette split time in goal and combined for the teams’ second shutout while Cailey Croson took the loss in goal for HAR FC.

HOUSTON ACES 7, FC AUSTIN ELITE 0

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Aces had scored 13 goals through two matches of play coming into this week and hardly been challenged in defense. It was more of the same on Saturday as the Aces came away with a 7-0 victory over FC Austin Elite. It was the Julie Gavorski show for the Aces as after her two-goal showing against ASA El Paso on June 2nd, she netted a hat trick to lead her side to three points. The University of Cincinnati Bearcat scored in the 15th and 38th minute before burying a free kick in the 72nd minute to finish off the hat trick. Also getting in on the scoring fun was Week V UWS Team of the Week member Gisela Arrieta, who buried a pair of goals that included a 24th minute free kick, along with assisting Anna Torres Pallares’ 34th minute goal. Rounding out the scoring was Tatiana Ariza, as her 73rd minute goal was her first of the 2018 season. That gives the Aces nine points out of a possible nine so far on the season and will look to try and take the season series against El Paso when they travel out to West Texas next week. After a pair of challenging matches in succession, FCA will look to regain some positive form at home when they host HAR FC on Friday, June 22 before traveling to play North Texas two days later.
