FC Austin Elite vs. HAR FC

8:00 PM CDT – Elite Field (Round Rock, TX)

Both FC Austin Elite and HAR FC are coming into Week VII action riding two-match losing streaks after winning their respective season opening games in Week IV. And with the way that the Houston Aces have been rolling through the season thus far, this weekend will be vital for both sides. What will also be key for FC Austin Elite is that they put the 7-0 drubbing they received at the hands of the Aces last weekend behind them. After posting a clean sheet to North Texas in their opening match, Jamie Meshew’s defensive unit have allowed 12 goals in two matches and that will need some serious fixing. This group does possess some strong attackers and have the capability to not only create a number of chances but be efficient in the final third as well. So if they can get back to what worked in the opening weekend, they can start off this double match weekend on the right foot.

HAR FC are certainly glad to not be seeing North Texas anymore, after dropping back-to-back games to the Image. This match marks the halfway point in the season and before they take on the Aces in their next two matches, getting three points this weekend will be a priority. Working with the defensive unit will have been a priority in the build up as HAR FC have conceded close to double-digit goals so far this season and with the FC Austin Elite group possessing the capability to get goals in bunches, they will need to tighten up the back line. If that happens, then they will hope that that their two scorers on the season, Sabrina Munguia and Stephanie Garcia, will create chances and find the back of the net.

ASA El Paso vs. Houston Aces

6:00 PM MDT – Americas H.S. (El Paso, TX)

This was the matchup that started off the inaugural Southwest Conference season and that match went horribly wrong for ASA El Paso. They trekked down to Houston during Week IV play and allowed nine goals to the Aces, along with falling 3-2 to HAR FC the next day. But the group responded well on the following weekend and picked up a wild 5-4 win over FC Austin. So that result will certainly have given David Lopez’s team a bit of confidence but after a bye-week this past week, they will have hoped their hours on the training field working on defensive tactics will come to full fruition against one of the best offensive units in the entire league.

The Aces have steamrolled through their competition thus far in 2018. In three matches, they have scored 20 goals and have conceded none and look as if they are the likely candidate to represent the conference at the 2018 UWS National Championship weekend. But faced with a long road trip ahead to an ASA El Paso side seeking retribution for that opening weekend match, the Aces will look to come out of the gates strongly and set the tone early. Julie Gavorski was named the Week VI UWS Offensive Player of the Week for her hat trick against FC Austin Elite and her five goals are amongst the league leaders. So if there is anyone that the Aces could be going through early in the attack, it will most likely be her.

North Texas Image vs. FC Austin Elite

6:00 PM CDT – Old Panther Stadium (Duncanville, TX)

This is the return match of a Week IV encounter between the two sides, with FC Austin Elite coming away with a 2-0 victory. FCA received goals from Christina Arteaga and Kimberlin Palacios and while the match provided plenty of attacking opportunities for both teams, Paige Wallace stopped all nine shots she saw for her only shutout of the season. Now with FCA playing their second match of the weekend, North Texas will hope that they will see their visitors come into the match with some heavy legs and try to expose that. After dropping their first two matches of the season, NTX posted back-to-back wins over HAR FC and find themselves in second place coming into Week VII. They have received strong offensive production over the past couple of weeks from Mackenzie Scovill (two goals, two assists) and Valiree Morris (goals in two straight) and will be hoping that those two will continue their form into this match, as three points from this contest can keep NTX close to the Aces in first place.
