CT Fusion Managing Director named Colin Jose Media Award winner

METUCHEN, NJ - Connecticut Fusion Managing Director JP Dellacamera was named the recipient of the 2018 Colin Jose Media Award this past weekend at the 2018 National Soccer Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Frisco, Texas. The legendary play-by-play announcer joined forces with Shep Messing (former U.S. National Team & New York Cosmos goalkeeper turned broadcaster) to help launch the Fusion this past season, who compete in the East Conference of United Women's Soccer (UWS).

An accomplished radio and television announcer, Dellacamera has called nine consecutive FIFA World Cups on television or radio, and five FIFA Women's World Cups. Dellacamera was also on the broadcast teams for the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games for NBC Sports, and has called Major League Soccer (MLS) games since the inaugural season in 1996. Most recently, he called matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The Colin Jose Media Award was created to honor the contributions of members of the print and electronic media who specialize in communications with respect to soccer in the United States.

"United Women's Soccer would like to congratulate JP Dellacamera on this well-deserved award," said UWS Commissioner Joseph Ferrara, Jr. "JP has been a string supporter of UWS and we appreciate the professionalism that he brings to the organization."

"I am so honored and humbled to receive the Colin Jose Media Award, joining such a distinguished list of past winners," said Dellacamera. "It is great to see the National Soccer Hall of Fame recognize those outside of the playing and coaching fields, as they pay tribute to others who have made significant contributions to the game."

This past season, the Connecticut Fusion made a statement in their inaugural season. The team posted an impressive 6-3-1 record in East Conference play, good for a second place finish. The Fusion fell one game shy of qualifying for the 2018 UWS Championship, though, as they lost to the Inferno Rush in the East Final. Defender Kylee McIntosh (First Team) and forward Tori Sousa (Second Team) garnered All-UWS honors. McIntosh and Sousa were joined by three teammates - midfielders Chanel Johnson and Kelly Quigley & goalkeeper Meghan Dalton - on the 2018 UWS All-East Conference Team.

"In my first season in UWS, I was most impressed with the league both on and off the field," said Dellacamera, who chatted extensively about the Fusion in a recent feature by The Equalizer (requires subscription). "On the field, I thought the caliber of play was exciting, strong, and competitive. Off the field, I appreciated the structure of the league as well as the talented and passionate people that ran the teams. The future is bright for United Women's Soccer."
