Athenians SC returns to take on 2019 UWS Southwest slate

METUCHEN, NJ - The San Antonio Athenians Soccer Club are proud to announce that the franchise will return to the field in 2019 and will take part in the Southwest Conference of United Women's Soccer (UWS). The national pro-am league consists of teams across the United States and Canada with the UWS Southwest boasting the likes of the defending league champions in the Houston Aces, so it will offer the #AthenaFamily a pool of dedicated opponents.

"We are thrilled to have the San Antonio Athenians join United Women's Soccer," said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara, Jr. "The organization has a proven track record of hitting all standards of operating a sports franchise - on and off the field."

San Antonio is also very proud to announce that they have partnered with Cornerstone Christian for the 2019 season and will utilize their brand-new, 5,000-seat stadium and training facilities known as Warrior Stadium. Both organizations share values and support their mission to improve the landscape and quality positive growth of athletes and our community.

All Athenian tryouts, home games, and international friendlies will be played at Warrior Stadium. Friendlies against Mexican women's teams and other high-level teams will be announced soon! San Antonio is looking for the best players to compete against the best competition. About United Women's Soccer (UWS): a national women's soccer league sanctioned by U.S. Soccer. UWS is a professionally operated league created for teams that meet high minimum standards. The season runs from May until the end of July, culminating in a National Championship match.
