UWS Season Kicks Off in Midwest on May 10

METUCHEN, NJ - United Women's Soccer has officially announced the alignment and schedule for the 2019 Midwest Conference. Six teams will take the pitch in the UWS Midwest with the Conference Champion receiving an automatic bid to the UWS National Championship tournament.

MAY 10 | GRFC VS LANSING… The United Women’s Soccer season begins in the Midwest on Friday, May 10, 2019. Highlighting the weekend is a rematch of the 2018 Midwest Conference championship match as Lansing United hosts Grand Rapids FC at the East Lansing Soccer Complex. GRFC, on the strength of two goals each from Samantha Maher and Marti Corby, defeated the regular season champion Lansing United by a 4-2 final.

MAY 10 | ANN ARBOR VS DETROIT… In the second matchup of 2019, UWS expansion team AFC Ann Arbor looks to mirror the success of its men’s team as the Mighty Oak travel to Ultimate Soccer Arena to battle perennial contender Detroit Sun.

MAY 17 | UNION VS LEGENDS… Former Indy Premier will take the field as the newly re-branded Indiana Union on Friday, May 17, 2019. The Union will host the Michigan Legends at Grand Park in Westfield, IN – a venue they will call home for the 2019 season. Grand Park, which is the training center for the Indy Eleven professional men’s team, was the location of the Big 10 men’s and women’s soccer championships this past season.

MAY 25 | LEGENDS VS ANN ARBOR… On Saturday, May 25, 2019, the Michigan Legends will forgo hosting at Legacy Center in Brighton to compete against AFC Ann Arbor at Independence Park in Canton, MI. The Memorial Day weekend match will be played in conjunction with the Canton Cup, one of the largest youth tournaments in the United States.

CORNER BALLPARK… Sunday, June 23, 2019 marks a special UWS event as the Detroit Sun will host the Indian Union at Corner Ballpark. This site, better known as Old Tiger Stadium, was the historic venue of the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball.

MIDWEST PLAYOFFS… The top four teams in the final regular season standings will compete in the 2019 Midwest Conference playoffs on the weekend of July 12-14. The conference winner will advance to the four-team UWS National Championship (July 19-21).
